DeMeco Ryans: CJ Stroud can’t be hit as much as he was on Sunday

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud saw more of his former teammate Jonathan Greenard than he would have liked during Sunday’s visit to Minnesota.

Greenard signed with the Vikings as a free agent this offseason and the edge rusher tackled Stroud three times in the Vikings’ 34-7 win over the AFC South club. Greenard said after the game that “it was definitely weird” to play the Texans, but the Texans were focused on other things when analyzing the game.

Stroud has been sacked four times in total and is now at 11 this season, putting him on pace to be sacked 62 times in 17 games. Head coach DeMeco Ryans said the team needs to do more to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“One of our biggest keys to success was protecting our quarterback, and we didn’t do that, and we did not win the match“I don’t want to see your quarterback get hit as much as he got today, so we’ve got to get that fixed.”

That process will likely begin immediately, and the Jaguars will be the next team to test the Texans’ protection.
