Following the Indianapolis Colts“Week 6 win over the Tennessee Titans, Focus on professional football had the opportunity to review the tape and distributed his weekly notes.
So, which Colts defenders performed best in this game?
If you’re an avid reader of these articles, you know what’s coming next, and this is my warning that PFF’s grading system is certainly not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluation. It’s just one tool of many that exist, but generally speaking, when a player plays well, the ratings reflect that.
Below is an overview of PFF’s scoring system to provide some context behind the numbers:
90.0+: Elite
80-89.9: High quality
70-79.9: Good
60-69.9: above average
50-59.9: Average
40-49.9: below average
39.9 or less: mediocre
CB Sam Womack
PFF category: 88.0
Womack continues to play very well for the Colts. Against the Titans, Womack was targeted four times and allowed just one completion for two yards. He also had two assists on those targets. Womack’s passer rating when targeted was just 39.6.
LB Jaylon Carlies
PFF category: 84.9
As the Colts’ third linebacker when they line up in their 4-3 base defense, Carlies played 20 snaps Sunday, which is the third-most he’s had in a game this season. PFF credited Carlies with four total tackles, while in coverage he allowed three receptions on four targets but held pass catchers to a total of just eight yards.
DT Grover Stewart
PFF category: 81.0
Collectively, the Colts haven’t performed very well against the run, with the Titans averaging over 5.0 yards per attempt as a team. However, Stewart continued to find ways to make an impact. According to PFF stats, he finished the game with four tackles and three stops in the running game. Stewart’s impact also won’t always show up on the stat sheet with the double teams he faces and the space he consumes, helping create for others.
Honorable mentions
S Nick Cross: 74.1
DT Adetomiwa Adebawore: 72.0
OF Dayo Odeyingbo: 70.6
