Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a trade with the Green Bay Packers, landing outside linebacker Preston Smith. Pittsburgh may need Smith to take the field Sunday against the Washington Commanders as part of the team’s passing rotation.
The reason is that on Thursday, outside linebacker Nick Herbig was still limited in practice. Herbig continues to work his way back from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the team’s last three games. Herbig got two starts in place of an injured Alex Highsmith and was on track for a breakout season.
If Herbig isn’t ready to go, we could see a heavy dose of Smith who joined the team on Tuesday. Pittsburgh is also without DeMarvin Leal who has been placed on IR. The Steelers face the 7-2 Washington Commanders on Sunday.
