When you’re the only undefeated team in the NFL nine weeks into the regular season, the criticism falls on you because your reputation speaks for itself. It doesn’t matter if six of Kansas City ChiefsThe wins came by a score or less in what some considered an offensive year for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Nonetheless, the Chiefs’ offense dispelled criticism about Monday Night Football en route to a captivating 30-24 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So what can 5-4 do? Denver Broncos what do you expect from Andy Reid’s offensive monster in the Week 10 divisional contest at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday?
“Let’s start with this; they play great defense,” Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Friday. “Now, Andy’s been doing this for a long time. So he knows how to win.”
Payton emphasized how Reid is able to cultivate such confidence despite all the ups and downs of the regular season and the vagaries of the NFL game.
“It can vary from week to week. Your roster changes, you have injuries and pieces come and go,” Payton said. “So as coaches we kind of have to look at that. They have done a very good job in this area. The heart of a champion, I say that. There’s a level of confidence and a belief that – I was a part of it – where you just knew that you were there for every game, or that you had a chance… It’s just that inner belief: “What whatever it is, we must do it.” TO DO.’ This is what we are pushing for, so we will be ready.
Payton hopes to go from 41-10 to battery by Baltimore Ravens in Week 9. Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix is ready for his first game against Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Broncos offense has been up and down for most of the season and continues to rely on its rookie quarterback to make plays. Nix totaled 1,753 yards and eight touchdowns, with six interceptions. The No. 12 overall pick from Oregon proved to be an elusive dual-threat QB with 295 rushing yards and four extra scores.
After making franchise and NFL history by recording his first receiving touchdown in Baltimore last week, Nix continues to impress and dazzle with his playmaking abilities, something that cornerback Chiefs All-Pro Trent McDuffie mentioned earlier this week.
It will take a heroic effort from the talented Broncos rookie, facing famed Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnulo, whose championship pedigree has been the unlikely strength of his undefeated team. Based on Payton’s comments, the Broncos could be targeting the heart of the Chiefs defense.
“If you studied their coverage, if you just looked from above and at the moment of the shot, you’ll often see a lot of images at two heights. [coverage]”, Payton said. “They play quarters, they play palms. Essentially the receivers are all equipped with safeties, so the interior would be the tight ends and the [running] back. I think part of it is the way they play defense. Steve [Spagnuolo] knows what he’s doing, but that’s one of their basic coverage principles.
If Denver has any chance of playing a competitive game against its AFC West rival, Payton and Nix will need to get the Broncos offense running at full throttle. While this may look like a David versus Goliath matchup on paper, it’s important to remember that anything can happen on any given Sunday.
