Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams wants to be a ‘beacon of hope’

The Detroit Lions will regain much of their offensive success Sunday night when they take on the Houston Texans.

Receiver Jameson Williams was reinstated after a two-game suspension this week and is expected to contribute to the team against Houston this week.

Broad has been mired in controversy in recent weeks, as he was also involved in a traffic stop and found to have a gun in the car he and his brother were traveling in. This check is currently the subject of an investigation by the Detroit police.

Still, Lions coach Dan Campbell continued to have faith in Williams. He has shown excellence through the first six games of the season and could pick up where he left off.

Early in his career, Williams was suspended twice, including a four-game ban for playing rule violations last season and now his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy .

As Williams overcame another obstacle in his young career, he remained confident in himself. Even though he doesn’t worry about outside opinions, he has maintained his identity and hasn’t let the struggles define him.

“Going through this situation, I think I don’t really care who people see me anymore,” Williams said, via Detroit Free Press. “Everyone has their own opinion. Some people will think I’m a bad person, others will think I’m not. So I really don’t have much to explain to anyone. I know who I am, I know where I come from, I know what I work hard for and I know what I’m trying to achieve, so I think that’s the main thing, that I know myself rather than someone else. ‘another who’s trying to get to know me.

Part of the reason Williams still enjoys trust and value within the Lions organization is his willingness to think of others and help others, including his former teammate Isaiah Williams. After the team’s season opener, Isaiah Williams found his game jersey folded in his locker, which is not traditional for NFL players considering they have to pay for their jerseys.

It turns out that Jameson Williams was behind this, as he had already paid for his teammate to keep the jersey from his NFL debut. The third-year receiver also allegedly financially supported several members of his family.

As a youth, he grew up in a tough neighborhood in St. Louis. Hearing gunshots outside his family’s home was commonplace, including during a home visit from Ohio State coaches Ryan Day and Brian Hartline.

However, despite these circumstances before heading off to college, Williams remained a kind person who goes out of his way to help those around him, like what he did for his rookie teammate. Additionally, he helped secure extra tickets for an Alabama teammate who didn’t have enough for his family.

Campbell said Williams is worth sticking around for because of what’s in his heart and the compassion and kindness he shows toward his family and teammates. Although the forward has had his ups and downs during his career, Williams will get his first opportunity to bounce back once again in Sunday’s game.
