Chicago Bears release OL Nate Davis

THE Chicago Bear have released offensive lineman Nate Davis, the team announced Wednesday.

The Bears signed Davis to a three-year, $30 million contract, with $19.25 million guaranteed, during the 2023 offseason. Davis was brought in to bolster the interior offensive line – where Teven Jenkins was moved from right guard to left guard to accommodate his addition – but he didn’t live up to that contract.

Davis, who NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed to be shopped by the Bears at the NFL trade deadline, has started just 13 times over the past two seasons. He has dealt with injuries and personal issues, and his play on the field has not been up to par. he allowed 26 QB rushes and 35 QB pressures. Davis, who has started two games this season, has not seen the field since Week 5.

With the offensive line ravaged by injuries, Davis was in play to see the field in last week’s loss to the New England Patriots. But he woke up with a surprise back injury on Sunday morning and was ruled out before kick-off. It seems like this may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for Chicago.
