Panthers insider predicts Andy Dalton will get another chance to start this season

Andy Dalton resumed his backup role for the Carolina Panthers. In the last three weeks following a car accident, Dalton handed the role to Bryce Young. Young has seemingly taken over, as he is 2-1 and has improved each week. It is likely that his role is lost for now.

However, head coach Dave Canales did not commit to him for the Week 12 game outside of the bye week and did not name him a long-term starter at the position. A Panthers insider believes Dalton will be back at some point this season.

Joe Person covers the Panthers for the Athletic. This prediction was made before the game against the New York Giants, but the logic still applies. Person said Young received praise from Canales after the New Orleans Saints’ win, but he wasn’t committing to him even for next week. That’s still true, and he thinks Dalton and Young will get three starts each to finish this season.

He noted that no one, not Canales or even general manager Dan Morgan, is committed to Young beyond this season. They didn’t trade him, but Morgan said they would re-evaluate in the offseason and see where everyone is. It’s not exactly a vote of confidence in Young, and Canales doesn’t seem to want to give him the reins just yet.
