How Drake Maye could be on track to prove he’s the best QB in the 2024 draft class

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye might just be the best quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft class, which has become a widely held opinion at this point in the NFL season.

The former UNC Tar Heels signal-caller was originally selected 3rd overall by the New England Patriots and impressed in the six games he took the field for, completing 64.7% of his passes for 954 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

He also has 233 rushing yards and one rushing score.

Those stats aren’t exactly indicative of a world beater, but they’re solid for a rookie signal-caller in Maye’s position. And what they don’t reflect already is comfort level in the offense, arm strength, courage and pure leadership ability.

And at this point, he presents himself better than Caleb Williams and co., although some would debate candidates like Jayden Daniels.

Former Patriots legend Drew Bledsoe is among those convinced so far of what Maye brings to the table. Bledsoe went so far as to say that Maye had a Joe Burrow feel to his game.

“He seems to have a lot of composure and when you’re a starting quarterback it can be difficult because everything goes faster,” Bledsoe said in a one-on-one interview with RG.

“Being a rookie quarterback in the NFL is a lot like sticking your head in a popcorn machine with all the popcorn falling everywhere. And it happens so fast you’re trying to decide. It seems like have a calmness that allows him to play in the chaos around him.”

He can spread the ball, but when he pulls it down, he actually has wheels. This is important in today’s match. He reminds me a bit of Joe Burrow, he seems to be quite cunning, sees things quite well, runs a bit. It reminds me a little of Joe.”

It will be interesting to see how Maye continues to progress as the Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams next game scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.
