The Cleveland Browns were excited to welcome star running back Nick Chubb back onto the field after his horrific knee injury last season.
Chubb has been a fan favorite and one of the biggest offensive stars in the NFL for years. Unfortunately, since his return, he no longer looks like the same player.
In his first four games after his injury, Chubb carried the ball 53 times for 163 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers average out to about 3.1 yards per carry.
This led to some questions about his future with the Browns. Could the team actually consider parting ways with Chubb and letting him enter free agency?
Anthony Palacios Final word on sport suggested that Chubb could end up leaving Cleveland and signing with the Los Angeles Chargers. He thinks the Chargers could look to pair JK Dobbins and Chubb.
“No one loves running the football more than Harbaugh, so having Dobbins and Chubb on the same roster could make their dreams of winning the Super Bowl come true. The Chargers, at 7-3, are by far the best wild team card in the AFC, but they could go there Despite some growing pains in the playoffs, Chubb joining the Chargers could mean he’ll produce more yardage behind a coach who wants to continue running the football. maybe not lately, but the signing of Chubb could put more emphasis on that.”
Before his injury, Chubb was an absolute superstar. He was one of the most feared running backs in the NFL.
Watching him go through his injury has been difficult for Browns fans. Watching him struggle to get his legs back under him now that he’s back on the field has been just as difficult.
He will have every chance to prove himself throughout the season. If he can start showing signs of returning to his old self, Cleveland would likely bring him back.
However, if he fails to show signs in the final weeks of the year, moving on could be a legitimate option.
All that being said, it will be interesting to see what he looks like. Chubb will be an intriguing free agent this offseason and the Browns need to see something from him in order to justify spending money to keep him.
