PHILADELPHIA – Jalen Carter has earned the respect of opposing offenses in the NFL.
How can you know?
Carter, the EaglesThe second-year defensive tackle is so dominant that he’s often double-teamed — and often held without getting the penalty called for by officials. He’s hard to miss because Carter plays virtually every defensive snap, a rarity for defensive tackles.
That’s why Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was asked what he could do to inform officials about the holds against Carter. This happened multiple times this past Sunday in the Eagles’ 24-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
This will likely happen, at least in double teams, against Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
“I don’t know. Do you have any ideas?” » said Fangio, laughing. “There was one play in particular where he was roughly restrained and pulled to the ground. And there was no call.”
For Carter, his dominance goes well beyond the statistics, however impressive. He has 4.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, 32 pressures and 4 passes defended.
Double-teaming Carter freed up fellow defensive tackle Milton Williams to post a career-high 5 sacks.
“If they want to double team Jalen, I’m going to win my 1-on-1s and get to the quarterback,” Williams said. “It’s okay with me because I can beat my man.”

This gives Carter as much pleasure as his own dismissal.
“It’s not just about me getting fired,” Carter said. “I obviously want sacks. Sacks are important in my position. But you see my boys here, Milt got two (against the Rams on Nov. 24). I’m happy just for that. If I don’t get any , I want to see someone else get it, and we’ll celebrate together.
Needless to say, Carter did a lot of celebrating. As for the takes, Carter said he doesn’t worry about them.
“It’s football,” Carter said. “I don’t know if it’s in the game plan, but sometimes there can be a blockage. It can stop me from playing. But if the reps don’t see it, then you just have to move on to the next play. “.
Carter said he rarely said anything to the referees about plays in which he thought he might have been held. He was then questioned about the room in which Fangio said he was “rudely restrained and pulled to the ground?”
“Yeah, I was like, ‘Didn’t you see that?’ That’s all I said,” Carter said. “Then I had to move on to the next play. (The Ravens) were moving quickly. They made a big play that motivated.”
