A Week 17 showdown between Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders against Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons will it be moved to prime time?
Week 17 (Christmas Week) features NFL games on four different days: Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and Monday. However, this is the current schedule, as the league may move several games to Saturday. The Commanders’ game against the Falcons is one of five games under consideration.
Washington has played two prime-time games this season: Week 3 against the Bengals on Monday Night Football and Week 11 against the Eagles on Thursday Night Football. Both games were away games, with Washington posting a 1-1 score.
The NFL wanted to adapt the Commanders’ Week 6 game against the Ravens to Sunday Night Football, but CBS blocked the move. This week’s Sunday night contest was the Bengals and Giants. Many people in the NFL were unhappy with CBS.
The Commanders had one of their games fail this season. In the Week 8 matchup with the Chicago Bears, the No. 1 pick (Caleb Williams) faced the No. 2 pick (Daniels), and the game was moved from 1 p.m. ET to kickoff in late afternoon at 4:25 p.m.
Here are the five games planned for week 17:
-
Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Commanders
-
Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Rams
-
Denver Broncos vs. Cincinnati Bengals
-
Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Giants
-
Los Angeles Chargers vs. New England Patriots
The NFL has a tripleheader scheduled for Saturday, with three games that day. Of the games above, Washington-Atlanta appears to have the most playoff implications. The Commanders hold the seventh spot in the NFC playoff seed, while the Falcons are one game behind the Buccaneers in the NFC South.
The Cardinals-Rams matchup is also one with playoff implications for both teams, as they are locked in a battle with the Seahawks and 49ers to win the NFC West. The Chargers, Broncos and Colts are all in the playoffs, while the Bengals are on the outside looking in. The Giants and Patriots are two of the worst teams in the NFL.
As things stand, it looks like the Commanders and Hawks will meet on Saturday.
