The Green Bay Packers are one of the youngest teams in the National Football League and are seemingly destined for the playoffs. However, they still have areas in which they need to improve.
The Packers’ wide receiver group is comprised entirely of second- and third-year players. The group has struggled with drops and consistency this year. However, New York Jets superstar Davante Adams can essentially control his future and could get together with the Packers this offseason. Brad Berreman of FanSided named the Packers as one of Adams’ potential suitors.
“Adams could very well return to Green Bay as his career begins to wind down, but without Rogers,” Berreman wrote. “A young group of receivers that often struggles for consistency could use a veteran leader, and Jordan Love could use a reliable veteran target as well.”
Adams is fourth all-time in receiving yards for the Packers. He is second in touchdowns. The Packers legend was traded to the Jets from the Las Vegas Raiders this season to play with Aaron Rodgers. Adams signed a five-year, $140 million contract with the Raiders after his trade. The Jets’ season got away from them and Adams is owed $35.64 million for each of the next two seasons. according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The Jets aren’t going to pay him that, and if he wants to leave New York, he could just hold out until they release him instead of renegotiating. The Packers have $62.7 million in cap space next season and could afford Adams. He mentioned how much he admires Jordan Love’s game now that he’s seen him play and win a playoff game.
“It might seem strange to see Adams in a Packers uniform again,” Berreman wrote. “But they might be interested in him, and he can definitely see a situation that would suit him as he chases a Super Bowl ring.”
Adams is one of the greatest Packers receivers of all time. As he nears the end of his career, the Packers could be an ideal destination to retire while still chasing a Super Bowl.
