GREEN BAY – Before their match against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, the Green Bay Packers perhaps seeks to bring back the magic of their all-white uniforms brought them when they faced the Houston Texans in October.
The Packers hinted at the return of alternate uniforms in an Instagram post Monday. The post featured several photos from the Texans game with the caption: “Last time we wore these was on film. Comment below to see them again this Sunday in Seattle.”
The last time all-white uniforms appeared, October 20 against the Texansthe Packers clinched a victory with a 45-yard field goal by newly acquired Brandon McManus on the final play. The Instagram post features McManus. As the regular season draws to a close, a win on Sunday is exactly what Green Bay needs secure a playoff spot.
Have the Packers ever worn all-white uniforms and helmets?
The game against the Texans wasn’t the first time Lambeau Field saw the Packers in head-to-toe white. The Packers used white uniforms from time to time in the 1940s and 1950s, with white jerseys becoming the standard for road games in the 1960s.
The 1956 home opener against the Lions was the first time white helmets made an appearance, although they were paired with dark green jerseys.
How many times can the Packers wear alternate uniforms?
Under NFL rules, teams wear alternate uniforms and helmets up to three times per season. So far, the Packers have already taken advantage of two of their three opportunities.
The Packers debuted all-white uniforms and helmets on October 20 against the Texans. The team also wore an alternate uniform, the classic from the 50son November 3 against the Lions.
If they bring back the all-white uniforms on Sunday, it will mark their third and final use of alternate uniforms for the regular season.
