In the Arizona CardinalsDuring last Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, the NFL’s fine police continued their trend of imposing monetary discipline on plays for which no penalties were issued.
One player from each team was fined, but only the offending Rams group intervened on a no-flag play.
We’ll start with the Cardinals.
Rookie safety Dadrion (Rabbit) Taylor-Demerson was fined $5,592 for a second-quarter blindside block on a Rams punt. There was a 15-yard penalty on the play.
Punter Ethan Evans’ 46-yard punt went out of bounds at the Cardinals’ 30-yard line, but the penalty was on the far side of the field and no replay was shown.
The Cardinals were forced to start this possession at the 15-yard line.
The Rams’ fine came on a fourth-quarter play on the Cardinals’ final possession that ended with the interception bouncing off the helmet of tight end Trey McBride.
On second and 10 from the Arizona 36-yard line, quarterback Kyler Murray completed a 6-yard pass to running back Michael Carter. Rams safety Kamren Curl hit Carter high in what was ruled illegal helmet use, even though on-field officials did not throw a flag.
Curl was fined a hefty $22,511, which tied for second out of 35 fines in Week 17.
