ATLANTA (WBOY) – After 50 years of coaching, college football legend and Marion County native Nick Saban will soon have his name enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
During a clip from Friday’s episode of College GameDay—posted on X by Pat McAfee– host Rece Davis announced that Saban would headline the final Hall of Fame class, an announcement that Saban said he was not aware of about participating in the live program but for which he was grateful.
“Any time something like this happens, it’s because you had a lot of great people in your organization,” Saban said. “I was happy to drive the bus, but we had great people on board.”
Saban’s coaching career took him to several different places, including West Virginia University, where he coached defensive backs for two seasons, as well as brief stints with the Cleveland Browns and Dolphins. Miami. But his most notable exploits came during his time at Alabama, where he led the Crimson Tide to six national championships.
Saban and the rest of the College Football Hall of Fame class of 2025 will be officially announced on Wednesday, January 15 at 3 p.m. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 67th Annual NFF Awards Dinner on December 9, 2025, at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
