A packed Wild Card weekend settled the matter: the Detroit Lions will host the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs.
While the Lions had the luxury of a first-round bye, the No. 6 Commanders eliminated the No. 3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a field goal. The upset victory was a major milestone for a Commanders team that fell to the Buccaneers in week one.
Jayden Daniels’ impressive rookie campaign continued into the playoffs. The favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year completed 24 of 35 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 36 yards on 13 carries. Receivers Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown each, guiding the Commanders to victory.
Defensively, the Commanders came up with a crucial forced fumble on a fumbled handoff between Baker Mayfield and Jalen McMillan and capitalized on top-notch positioning on the field.
The Lions return to action and host the Commanders at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The winner will head to the NFC Championship for a shot at the Super Bowl.
