THE Los Angeles Rams had planned a surprise party for Monday night, but apparently no one told Jared Verse. The rookie passer was outstanding in the Rams’ 27-9 win over the Minnesota Vikings, but there was a zero in the sack column next to his name.
That’s shocking considering A) he led the team with six pressures, according to PFF and B) eight other Rams defenders had at least a half-sack. But somehow, Verse didn’t join the party on Monday night.
He joked about it after the game, mentioning that all his teammates had left except him. Kobie Turner had multiple sacks, Braden Fiske had one, Neville Gallimore had 1.5, Byron Young had 1.5 and Ahkello Witherspoon had one, spreading the wealth throughout the game.
“Seeing Kobie come out and have two and a half sacks, three sacks — whatever he has — it’s crazy,” Verse said. “You see Fiske going crazy. Everyone is going crazy. Neville is going crazy. BY going crazy. Ahkello there. I’m like, what the hell? It’s a sack party and I’m not invited.
Although he wasn’t sacked, Verse had a huge impact on the match. He returned a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown, had six pressures and made two tackles, constantly drawing double teams from the Vikings.
He’s also the favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year, so he has a lot going for him.
