The Dallas Cowboys are currently searching for their next head coach. One name that comes up in the rumors is Deion Sanders. If Sanders is hired, could the Cowboys move on from Dak Prescott?
Suggested by Jack Duffin of 247 Sports the Cowboys could trade Dak Prescott to the Cleveland Browns if they hire Sanders as head coach. Sanders would likely want to recruit Travis Hunter or his son Shedeur Sanders if he took the Cowboys job.
“Financially, the Cleveland Browns can make this work because they will turn each contract year into an option bonus and push the salary cap far into the future,” Duffin wrote. “Dak will likely have to accept this change because the Cowboys are unlikely to have standard contract language in the Browns’ contracts.”
The Browns haven’t reaped the benefits they hoped for with Deshaun Watson. Prescott could take over as the franchise quarterback. He is playing on a four-year, $240 million contract and won’t be a free agent until 2029. The Browns have the second overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
Sanders and the Cowboys would guarantee at least one from Hunter or his son. However, if they trade Prescott, they will want a quarterback, and the Titans could prevent them from drafting Shedeur Sanders. Over the past two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders has totaled 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns. He also ran for eight touchdowns.
Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders has 40-18 years as a college head coach between Jackson State University and the University of Colorado. Sanders is a Hall of Famer, an eight-time Pro Bowler, a six-time All-Pro and won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys.
