NFL fans now know who is on Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s shortlist. He is interviewed for every head coaching opening, including the New Orleans Saints. But the New York Jets became his first choice, according to an insider.
Glenn is the favorite for the Jets’ open position, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post on Wednesday. The Jets replace Robert Saleh. New York fired him during the regular season after going 20-36.
“Aaron Glenn feels like the favorite for the coaching job. I’m not saying this based on anything the Jets have told me. It simply checks the boxes in many ways,” Costello wrote.
There is, however, an issue regarding the potential hiring of Glenn as head coach of the Jets.
“The only problem is his lack of experience as a head coach, but I think he can overcome that in the eyes of the Jets with a solid second interview,” Costello wrote. “I know there’s speculation that Glenn might go to the Saints, but he’s been telling people the Jets are his first choice. We’ll see if it happens that way.
Costello is not the first journalist to reveal that Glenn is the favorite. Glenn was called a fit for the Jets by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Meanwhile, for the Saints, it looks like they will lose by grabbing their former player and assistant. Glenn played in New Orleans for the 2008 season at cornerback, which became his final stoppage in the NFL. He then coached the Saints defensive backs from 2016 to 2020.
The Saints, however, didn’t just target Glenn for their vacancy. The franchise even interviewed candidates with expertise on offense.
New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was interviewed on Thursday. The 37-year-old has been with the Giants since 2022. However, he won Super Bowl LIV as Patrick Mahomes’ quarterback coach with the Kansas City Chiefs. Kafka spent 2017 to 2021 with the Chiefs.
Anthony Weaver is another one on the Saints radar. Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator conducted a virtual interview last Wednesday. Weaver previously served as defensive line coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2021-2023.
