The Denver Broncos have fired special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica after two seasons, the Denver Post and NFL Network reported Friday.
The move comes after a season in which the Broncos finished first in the NFL in punt return yards (15.7 yards per return), sixth in field goal percentage (91.2%) and tied for 15th in punt return yards (28.0 average).
Kotwica, 50, joined coach Sean Payton’s staff in 2023 after holding positions on special teams with the Minnesota Vikings (2022), Atlanta Falcons (2019-20), Washington franchise (2014-18) and the New York Jets (2007-13).
Despite his unit’s overall success, a blocked field goal attempt in Denver’s Week 10 loss at Kansas City loomed.
Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal burst down the left side of the Broncos’ line and deflected Wil Lutz’s 35-yard game-winning attempt in a 16-14 loss.
