After a turbulent season in which he was reportedly placed on the trading block, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp could be changing teams this offseason.
And according to a new report According to Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the top potential landing spots for Kupp if that happens.
“The Rams discussed with teams the possibility of flipping Kupp for a second-round pick before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, and they were willing to pay a portion of his 2024 salary,” Moton wrote Thursday.
“Kupp turns 32 in June, and he’s coming off another injury-riddled season in which he accumulated just 59.2 receiving yards per game, his lowest average since his rookie season in 2017. The Rams could revisit trade talks with teams this offseason if they want to get younger at the wide receiver position.
“Two years ago, the Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans before his age-30 season. Cooks held the second receiver spot behind CeeDee Lamb on the depth chart.
“The cooks’ contract will be canceled in March. Even though the Cowboys are confident that Jalen Tolbert can build on his third season, Kupp could be an insurance policy for a team that fields a passing-heavy offense in 2024.”
“Regardless of who the Cowboys hire as their next head coach, Kupp could be Dak Prescott’s reliable target at short and middle to move the chains, just like Cooks was the last two years.”
Kupp has two years remaining on a three-year, $80 million extension he signed with the Rams. The former Super Bowl MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year is still more than capable of adding immense value to victory should his injury fortunes change (and they should).
At his best, Kupp would form a deadly duo with Lamb for the Cowboys, and the potential of that alone should be enough for Dallas to call Los Angeles about a deal.
