Even Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley doesn’t know why he hit his helmet twice during his 78-yard touchdown run against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round.
Breaking free and outrunning the Rams defense, Barkley hit his head while heading toward the end zone in the fourth quarter of Philly’s 28-22 win.
Asked about the moment, the three-time Pro Bowler told reporters he was “falling apart as the children say”.
Barkley’s long run proved to be the deciding score of the game as Philadelphia nearly saw its 13-point lead erased.
Matthew Stafford’s four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Colby Parkinson brought the Rams within six points with 2:48 remaining, and they had a chance to take the lead after a three-and-out by the Eagles. Los Angeles drove all the way to the Philly 22-yard line before an incomplete pass from Stafford on fourth down spared the home team a disappointing loss.
Barkley’s performance adds to his historic 2024 campaign. He finished with 205 yards and two scores on the ground.
