Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy will remain a free agent throughout the 2025 season.

McCarthy, whose contract expired with the cowboys and was not signed for an extension, will sit on the 2025 season, According to Tom Pelissero from NFL Media. McCarthy withdrew his name from the consideration for the vacancy of the Saints of New Orleans. The saints are the last team to have a job as head coach to open this offseason.

The offensive coordinator of the Eagles of Philadelphia, Kellen Moore, had a second interview with the saints and looks like a favorite for work, According to Mike Garafolo from NFL Media.

McCarthy could be considered again for a coach position next year, although a year of reduction will not help him. However, he has an intriguing curriculum vitae.

McCarthy has a career record of 174-112-2. He had a percentage of victories of .618 in 13 seasons as a chief coach of the Green Bay packers and a percentage of victories of. 583 in five seasons in Dallas. His percentage of career victories .608 is better than some in the temple of renown like Tom Landry, Bill Parcels and Chuck Noll. He also has a Super Bowl championship with the 2010 Packers, although he made a lot of criticism to Green Bay for not having won another with Aaron Rodgers.

And for all the victories of the regular season in Dallas, McCarthy was still on the hot seat because he never took the cowboys to the NFC championship match or in a Super Bowl.

As it has become clear that he could be released in Dallas, McCarthy has transmitted a message to any future employer.

“I don’t like to talk about myself this way, but I will just be clear: I am a winner. I know how to win. I won a championship. I won a championship in this building [AT&T Stadium, where the Packers won a Super Bowl]”Said McCarthy at the end of last season, via the cowboys website. “And who I am. We will see where it’s okay.”

The history explains why McCarthy was contacted by certain teams with openings as soon as his cowboys contract expired and was authorized to interview. The Bears and Saints immediately set up interviews with him. McCarthy had a story with the saints. He was their attacking coordinator from 2000 to 2004, who was his work just before becoming packers head coach.

The Bears finally went with Ben Johnson and McCarthy will not go to New Orleans either. He will have to hope that there will remain a viable name for teams that may have a vacant coaching job in a year.
