THE Detroit lions agreed to hire the assistant of Denver Broncos, John Morton, as an offensive coordinator and to promote Kelvin Sheppard to the defensive coordinator, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was hired by the Chicago Bears and the defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn Left to direct the New York Jets, just days after the best classified lions were amazed by Washington, sixth seed in the NFC qualifier division division.

Johnson and Glenn are finalists in the assistant coach of the associated year of the Associated Press.

The finalist of the AP of the year coach Dan Campbell said that he expected the two coordinators even before being hired.

Campbell said the quarter-Arrière Jared Goff would have said who had been chosen as offensive coordinator, adding that he did not expect the Bowler Pro to take a step back without the Johnson Games.

“This thing is implemented so that Goff succeeds with our game leaders,” said Campbell last week.

Goff knows Morton because he was a senior attacking assistant for Lions in 2022.

“I want to keep our terminology in place,” said Campbell before hiring Morton. “I want to make sure Goff is comfortable because he plays at a high level.”

    Detroit players know Sheppard well.

He has led the team’s seconds in the past three seasons after leaving the outdoor seconds during the 2021 season.

Sheppard, which is from Stone Mountain, in Georgia, was drafted from LSU by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2011 draft, and the secondary had 429 plated during his 107 -game career.

Campbell gave Sheppard his departure in the coach after being director of development of LSU players in 2020.

The Broncos hired Morton far from Detroit in 2023 and was their game coordinator for two seasons. He has more than two decades of coach experience with Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, New York Jets, New Orleans and San Francisco.

Morton, who is from the suburbs of Detroit, was a wide receiver of the American conference in western Michigan.
