THE Indianapolis colts Tanor Bortolini selected with the 117th choice at the NFL 2024 draft. The 22 -year -old center has surpassed expectations during the first year, and the team could be ready to ride with him as a starter inside Next season.

Bortolini was an experienced project perspective, despite his age (21 years old during the draft), from 28 games in his collegial career. He also presented his versatility at the college level, leaving the tackle, at La Garde and in the Center with the Wisconsin badgers. The colts have chosen to keep it in the center, but Bortolini will always have this flexibility of position in its rear pocket.

Bortolini’s biggest attraction as a perspective was his athletics. At 6’4 “, 303 pounds, Bortolini tested a 90th athlete in the centile in almost all the metrics of the combine harvester outside the couch developed. Centers eligible since 1987.

Bortolini transformed his athletics and experience in a strong first season with the colts. As the main backup of the veteran Ryan Kelly, Bortolini made five departures and appeared in 351 offensive snaps as a recruit. He only granted seven pressures in 211 snaps for blocking passes and ended the season by allowing zero bags in the protection of passes.

Professional football focus was especially positive on the young center of their notes this season. It was classified as center number 18 of the league in global blocking grade among all players with at least 257 snaps. Bortolini finished as a new number new player in the 2024 draft class in global grade and player number three in terms of passing passage efficiency.

Bortolini may not have been a higher level superstar as a recruit, but he measured a bottom starter at the league level in his 21-year season. It is phenomenal for a player recently taken on the third day of the NFL draft.

How each recruit OL has pulled himself in the pressure rates authorized in 2024 📊

    2. Cooper Beebe – 2.8%

Bortolini’s impressive statistical season is supported by his play on the film. It is a supercharged athlete with a large head on his shoulders, which makes him perfect for playing in the center in modern game. His ability to have a help blocker is really underestimated and this competence alone returns his future in this very oprticistic league.

NFL’s offensive lines must operate in tandem at each stage of the process, especially in the protection of passes. The blocking of passes on an attachment is the key to success in this league, because a false step or a poor depth can leave a group exposed to a late blow on the defensive line. The man in the middle is the most responsible to ensure that the waste in front remains outside the quarter.

Bortolini already excels in this area at such a young age. He already has fantastic eyes and a great sensation in the position, which makes it a major asset in the protection of passes. He is often left in the past in the game of passes, but his ability to scan and find work constantly makes life easier for his friends. Regarding help blockers, Bortolini is already a fantastic player.

This sensation and the next level consciousness also behaves well in the racing game. Bortolini is excellent for moving away from the blocks to wash late threats in the racing game. His blocking of the position race is also at a high level, because there are very few benchmarks that he cannot reach with his athletics.

There may be no better combination than a great athlete who is already a brain player. Bortolini constantly showed on the film last season why coach of the offensive line Tony Sparano Jr. fell in love with him in the pre-project process. There is so much to work in your game that it is difficult to nitpick on faults.

Some growth areas are necessary in Tanor Bortolini’s game, but his eyes are really great for most representatives. Really aware player who constantly scans threats pic.twitter.com/k8lpnx0gq

The next step for a player like Bortolini is entirely rounding his game and fully maximizing his body. He has athletics and the brain to be a star in this league, he just needs strength now. There were times last season when he was blown away from the ball in the protection of passes or in the race game and it really showed how much he has to go as a player.

There are ways to get around this lack of strength in the center, but ideally, it is a deficiency that it can improve over time. In particular in the racing game, he had trouble moving the defensive plasters and creating space for his ball carrier. If he cannot add more muscle to his frame or at least find a way to move players inside, this will seriously limit his ceiling as a starter.

Overall, Bortolini has found several ways to survive despite this defect. He has mastered the art of winning ugly in protection against passes, which is always a plus in my book (as long as a player is not only Win ugly in the passing game). In the racing game, the colts used it more in space to limit its difficulties on duo blocks which require a trip up.

For the moment, this deficiency in his game is perfectly good for a 22 -year -old. It has a lot of time to become stronger and stronger to eliminate it in the future.

Tanor Bortolini obtained ugly victories against Keeanu Benton on Sunday, but we will take them against a high -level nose plate. I don’t care what it looks like lol at all pic.twitter.com/m1ke9lalk9

Full transparency, Bortolini broke all the expectations I had for him last season. I expected him to be a project player who took 1 to 2 years as an inactive Gameday to acclimatize fully at the NFL. His age and athletics were exciting, but I was a little worried about his university film that he would be ready to contribute from the first day.

He proved me a little wrong the door. He had a first first match against the Pittsburgh Steelers At the start of the season and never seemed to strike this wall of recruit when its number of snaps continued to grow. There are certainly areas of growth necessary in his game, but Bortolini has had a fantastic season, given his age and his draft status.

The most important thing for him now is just growth. He must continue to grow in his body and stack good days, good practices and good games. Progress is not given simply because a player is young and athletic; It is on the player not to become complacent and to continue to rely on a solid base.

Bortolini is probably the starting center of the colts next season and he has acquired this opportunity with his game. If he can add a little progress compared to what we saw last season, the colts could have found themselves A jewel in the fourth round of the 2024 draft.
