Orchard Park, NY – Buffalo Bills’s offensive line player Tommy Doyle announced his NFL medical retirement on Friday.
Doyle played four seasons of the NFL, all in Buffalo. The leg injury that finally forced his retirement occurred on August 19, 2023, during a pre-season match in Pittsburgh, who left him nervous lesions, the team said in a statement.
“At this stage, with the calendar and the healing process, it seems that it is permanent,” said Doyle. “I am simply unable to play football at a high level, and it’s time. When you know you know.”
Doyle also torn the ACL in his right leg in a week 3 game during the 2022 season.
“I really fought, in competition and working to come back from this injury (ACL), to be somehow struck by an even more disastrous injury,” said Doyle. “But at the end of the day, there were a lot of negative emotions and anger … By making a lot of reflection recently and looking at it, I learned a lot of precious lessons.”
The Bills selected Doyle in the fifth round in 2021. He played 11 games during his recruit season, which included a touch of 1 rod by Josh Allen against the New England Patriots in a joker match.
Buffalo won this match 47-17.
“I think what I will remember the fairest relationships with the team’s guys, with the coaches, with the trainers, with the fans,” said Doyle. “It’s an incredible city. It’s an incredible city. The fans base is great. Throughout my four years playing Buffalo, just the different locker rooms and how tight, was something really special. “
