Those of you who have read my columns probably know that I am a fan of Green Bay Packer.
This never prevented me from taking a favorable notice from the people involved in other NFL teams, even those who have long -standing rivalries with my team. Despite my aversion to Dallas Cowboys, I have always respected Tom Landry. With the Bears, a story that I discovered facilitated the avoidance of hatred as I see from certain fans of the Bears to Packers. I will discuss it later.
I have always had a deep respect for Walter Payton, even if each coil of highlighting about it showed him a long race against packers.
I also had respect for Virginia McCaskey, as owner of an NFL club, who told me about her in a business dominated by men, even if she inherited her from her father . His recent death at the age of 102 ended at an era. I learned more from her from the declarations of the players who had played for her, their wives and their children. She has shown real concern and recognized the efforts of the players. She also treated their family as if they were members of her family. A feeling similar to what I felt that the Packer administration and the players have shown in the past in their team and their teammates.
For example, the story of a young bettor by Green Bay, who had a cancer operation. He has not yet qualified for health insurance in the NFL. His Packer teammates helped pay the operation.
As it often seems to happen, when an admirable person dies, shortly after another good person with a link dies too. Dick Jauron died shortly after Virginia. I had a lot of respect for him as a coach, including with the Bears. My condolences to wear fans as you lose both Dick Jauron and Mama Bear McCaskey. Or as she was the daughter of Papa Bear Halas, it would be more correct to call her baby bear. I think I will stick to Mama Bear as long as she reigned on the bears.
Back to the history of bears and packers. The history lesson involves George Halas. At the start of the history of the Packer, they were sentenced to a fine and were not allowed to return to the League until they paid the fine. The fine was for packers using Notre Dame players while the players were still at university. The Acme Packing Company (which had the packers – the name of the team) was not going to pay the fine (no jokes on the road runners here.) George Halas came to Wisconsin to help the team Gather the community to collect funds for the good, which they did. So, without the help of George Halas, there may not have been the packers today.
Virginia McCaskey had the passion to bring the Bears back to the Super Bowl and win it. She estimated that a Super Bowl victory would prove that her father’s confidence in her was deserved.
Maman Bear, I’m sure your father was proud of what you did, even if he may not have been so proud of some of those who served under you.
