Indianapolis – With Green Bay Packers on the clock in the first round of the Draft Mock Draft publishers of the On Si NFL team, the selection was…
More about it in a moment. First of all, there were some of the players available with me posing as the managing director Brian Gotekunst:
Offensive line: Kelvin Banks from Texas, Josh Simmons de l’Ohio State, Gray Zabel in the state of North Dakota, Josh Conerly Jr. de l’Oregon.
Defensive Tackle: Derrick Harmon de l’Oregon, Darius Alexander de Toledo, Tyleik Williams from Ohio State.
End / Edge / Edge: Texas A & M’s Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton de Texas A&M, Mike Green de Marshall, Mykel Williams from Georgia.
Cornerbacks: Jahdae Barron from Texas, Shavon Revel from East Carolina, Azareye’h Thomas de Florida State, Maxwell HaiSton from Kentucky.
Receptions: If Gutekunst listened to the Ball bearer Josh Jacobs about the need to upgrade in the receiver, the prospects that could be on the board of directors at No. 23, Emeka Egbuka of Ohio State and Matthew Golden, were selected by Seahawks and Chargers, and Texas respectively. So, cross the list receiver, as in 2020, when Justin Jefferson and Brandon Aiyuk were out of the set.
If it was me, I would take Thomas from Florida State. Packers have a huge need in the corner. Jaire Alexander is not expected after another season plagued by an injury and the former first -round choice Eric Stokes will be joined by the backups Corey Ballentine and Robert Rochell in the free agency.
There are two ways to stop the opponent’s passage matches: to precipitate the smuggler or cover his receivers. Packers have not lost their eliminatory match against the Eagles due to the game of Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine. They were the slightest problems of the team during a 22-10 Wild-Card defeat.
However, in two losses against Lions, Jared Goff completed around 80% of his passes. In two defeats against the Vikings, Sam Darnold completed around 75% of his passes with six affected. It was not on Nixon and Valentine – Nixon was not surprisingly effective in Corner and Valentine had a sequence of four take -out games – but the packers do not have a defensive cap to put Justin Jefferson or Amon -Ra St. Brown.
Where the packers lost against the Eagles, it was in the trenches. Their offensive line, so effective all season, was overwhelmed by the defensive front of the Eagles. Maybe it would have played differently if the choice of first round Jordan Morgan had been healthy and available. But it was not, and the young backups of Green Bay were demolished after the early release of Elgton Jenkins.
With or without a free agent center Josh Myers, reinforcements are necessary. The versatility of Zach Tom will give Gutekunst a certain flexibility, but Tom is a proven right tackle and the right tackle is a critical position.
The defensive line is an interesting place. The packers’ race defense was sensational during most of the season and produced its best finish in more than a decade by granting less than 100 yards per game per game. The passing race, however, was a disappointment. The dismissal of Jason Rebrovich as a defensive line coach is a signal that the team believes that training, not talent, was the problem.
In these aforementioned matches against the Lions and the Vikings, the packers had five bags in four games. During 18 games, Rashan Gary’s production fell. Kenny Clark’s production fell from a cliff. Lukas Van Ness did not make the legendary second year jump.
Clark is a former first round choice on his third contract, Gary is a former first round choice on his second contract, Devonte Wyatt is a former first round choice that could enter her last season under contract and Van Ness is a former First round choose who was a disappointment.
The Eagles won the Super Bowl because of their incredible depth on the defensive line. A managing director should not react excessively to a match and a season, but, as coach Matt Lafleur said after the loss of the playoffs, “with pass pass, you can never have them enough.”
Gutekunst has regularly taken potential on production.
He did it with Gary, who had 10.5 bags in three seasons in Michigan, including 3.5 in his last year in 2018. He did it with Wyatt, who had five bags in four seasons in Georgia , including 2.5 in his last year in 2021. He did it with Van Ness, who had 13 bags in two seasons that came out of the Iowa bench.
The defensive tackle class is loaded, so Gutekunst can wait a bit to potentially replace the TJ Slaton free agent.
Thus, the choice is in the defensive / edge of the edge. There is no better rusher of passes in the draft than Mike Green of Marshall, but he could be a little undersized for the defense of Green Bay. Partly because so many games are played in bad weather and on affyed terrains, rushers of powerful passes have always been appreciated more than rushers of speed.
Gary was large and filled with potential. Van Ness was large and filled with potential.
The same goes for the Shemar Stewart of Texas A&M.
Stewart is tall. He will almost certainly organize a sporting program at the screening combination.
It is 100% potential because it had only 1.5 bags in each of its three seasons in Texas A&M. With 4.5 bags for his career, Gary and Van Ness were practically Reggie White in comparison. But Stewart had a big week at the senior Bowl, and Gutekunst likes the senior Bowl.
The big players win matches. Stewart has a chance to be great. It is exactly the type of player that Gutekunst tends to choose in the first round.
At the end of the season, Keisean Nixon said that he no longer wanted to return to kicks off. It would mean the #Packers would need a new turner.
Here is your introduction to a single possibility. https://t.co/2wxmljibet
