Former security of Vikings Robert Blanton to join the staff of the Saints
THE Saint-Orleans saints Continue to carry out coach movements on the defensive side of the ball with Brandon Staley solidified as the team’s defensive coordinator. With the recent hires of Peter Sirmon and Bo Davis at the Seven Fronts, the team will finally be added to the backend of this defense with the addition of the coordinator of the defensive game of Miami (Ohio) and security coach Robert Blanton.
Blanton, the old product Notre Dame spent six years in the NFL as a player in the security position, making stops in Minnesota, Buffalo and Dallas. Blanton, a team captain with Minnesota, would have his best season in 2014 when he led the team in plated with 106 over the year. A reliable player for the Vikings during his stay there.
As a coach, Blanton started as a defensive back coach at Benilde-St. Margaret High School of Minnesota where he would spend his first two years after the career game. Shortly after, Blanton would receive a job at the University of Miami as coordinator of the game of defensive passes in teams and security coach. During his mandate, Blanton would help lead the defense to a no. 1 classification in defense of the red zone in the Mac while finishing the third in total defense. Blanton’s largest feat would be the development in the defensive back room. Under Blanton in each of the last three seasons, the Redhawks had at least a defensive back received All-Mac honors after a few exceptional seasons with the program.
Although it is not clear what will be his new rule with New Orleans, Blanton will probably find himself helping development in the defensive back room. A few years longer than tyrann Mathieu security (32), Blanton brings a precious experience to which players can relate as a former himself. Players like Jordan Howden, Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry could benefit from a coach who saw everything in terms of play in the program and what offenses will try to do to attack him. Nevertheless, the young coach with the NFL experience as a player seems to be the theme with many teams hire this offseason.
