The Vikings of Minnesota have holes to fill on the list, and the corner position is one of them.
The Byron Murphy Jr., Stephon Gilmore, Shaq Griffin and Fabian Moreau is one of the minnesota agents this season. Although it seems likely that the Vikings will try to bring Murphy back, Gilmore is 34 years old and envisages retirement. Moreau was not a huge contributor, and although the Vikings could seek to re-signal Griffin, they could also turn to the free agents market for an upgrade, and there are a certain number of upper cords that hit the market in a short time.
Could Vikings be interested in targeting some of these names in free agency?
“Carlton Davis is a name I would keep an eye on,” said Star Tribune’s podcast on Tuesday on their Podcast Access Vikings. “I heard a little to think that they could be interested there. I mean, DJ Reed also had an excellent match against them last year, so these names could be in the mixture, and I think they want to bring Byron Murphy.”
Davis and Reed are two intriguing options for the Vikings. Davis is a free agent for the title champion of NFC North Detroit Lions, and he was a key contributor to their efforts in secondary school. Davis played 13 games and ended the year with 56 plated in total, 11 defended passes, two interceptions, two escaped recovery and a forced escape. Davis obtained an overall note of 74.5 Pro Football Focus (PFF) for 2024, which ranked 29th among the 223 classified corners.
Reed, on the other hand, was a show for jets in the middle of a bad season of the team. He played in 14 games and finished with 64 plated in total, 11 defended passes and a bag. Reid had an overall note of 70.5 PFF, 43rd of the 223 classified corners.
There is no doubt that it is two players who would have something to offer to the Vikings, and you should imagine the defensive coordinator Brian Flores would be delighted to bring one or the other to the fold. If the Vikings will continue one or the other off -season starts to take the photo when the free agency opens at 3 p.m. CT on March 12.
