Deshaun Watson’s contract was again reworked by the Cleveland Browns while the team seeks to erase the salary ceiling space with the new year of league within a week.
A person who knows this decision told the Associated Press on Thursday that the last restructuring of the quarter-back contract would erase nearly $ 36 million in space for the Browns. The person spoke at the AD on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce this decision.
Watson’s restructuring contract was reported for the first time by ESPN. The Browns were nearly $ 22 million on the ceiling before restructuring the Watson agreement.
This is the second time in three months that the Watson contract has been reworked. In December, the parties added empty years until 2030 to give the Browns additional financial flexibility to distribute dead money on the contract instead of taking a massive blow in a single season.
Watson, 29, can be missing all the 2025 season after having broken his Achilles tendon straight for the second time in three months in January. He initially injured it during a defeat of October 20 against the Bengals of Cincinnati.
The Browns have insurance that protects the contract and could obtain relief from the NFL ceiling if it is absent for the season.
Watson only played 19 games since the Browns acquired her from Houston Texans in 2022 and signed it with a fully guaranteed contract of $ 230 million.
He missed the first 11 games in 2022 due to a suspension of the league, made only six departures in 2023 before undergoing an end to the end of the season shoulder and started seven last year before the injury of the Achille tendon.
Cleveland, who went 3-14 in 2024, had the second choice of the NFL draft in April. He welcomed Shedeur Sanders de Colorado and Cam Ward from Miami – the two best quarter -arre hopes – this week, because the teams can bring up to 30 players eligible for the draft for visits.
The Browns should also sign a veteran quarterrier when the free agency begins on Wednesday.
