One of the best prospects for New Orleans saints in the NFL 2024 draft weighed a figure well below what people were waiting for-should the saints be affected?
According to Darrion Gray of holy wire, there is no reason to panic. New Orleans has been closely linked to the defensive platform of Michigan Stud Mason Graham in the draft, and that should not change despite Graham weighing less than expected with the combine.
“Mason Graham has recently been listed as the dream target of New Orleans Saints in Day 1 of the NFL draft,” wrote Gray. “During the NFL screening combination, Graham weighed 296 pounds. Michigan had listed 24 more pounds at 320 pounds. There were some who have been alarmed by the drastic weight of weight. »»
“Like the other scouts, the saints should not be dissuaded from Graham due to a weight lower than what it believed. This should change its adjustment in the defense. At 320 pounds, there was room so that it was a nose plate in the strange front defense of the base. It would be outside the table at 296 pounds. Graham is always an attractive perspective for the reasons listed by (ESPN’s Jordan) Reid, and could always intervene as a starter of day 1 for the saints. Although this would lead to a 3-4 defensive end, this does not lower its value or its impact for New Orleans. »»
Compared to Reid“The speed of Graham’s hand and the ability to deconstruct blocks (are) among the best in a deep defensive line class”.
It is easy for people to get carried away with all the gleaned figures of the combine harvester, but in the end, football players must be assessed according to the performances of the game. There have been a lot of “combination busts” who have proven to be excellent NFL players, included Tom Brady.
A GM that puts a lot of stock to players’ measurements could be disabled by Graham, but it would probably be a mistake. There are many more qualities that enter a winning football player than weight and speed.
Graham was a huge success at the highest level of university football although it was not as immense physically as listed. There is no reason to believe that Graham will not be able to carry his elite skills on the professional scene.
