The biggest task that Tampa Bay’s Buccaneers have this offseason is to find a way to keep Star Chris Godwin’s wide receiver on a new contract. He became a free agent after suffering a horrible ankle injury in the middle of the 2024 season, and it would be difficult for them to replace if he should leave.
In seven games before his injury, he caught 50 passes for 576 yards and five affected. During four of the five seasons before, he posted more than 1,000 yards and 80 receptions.
Godwin could be a little too expensive for Tampa Bay to be able to keep it. Some believe that he will head to the Patriots of New England of Reconstruction, but Matt Verderame de Sports illustrated that the Wideout veteran would be a good adjustment for the broncos of Denver ascendant.
“If Godwin comes out of Tampa Bay, broncos should jump,” Verderame wrote. “Denver needs more game leaders for the second-year-old BO Nix quarterrier, and Godwin certainly qualifies.
“… paired with Courtland Sutton, Denver would be a difficult blanket.”
Even if most chose them to finish with a losing record, the Broncos went 10-7 and made the playoffs last season thanks to a beautiful Nix game. But they won mainly with La Défense, and for them to reproduce what they did in 2024, and even less to go to the next stage, they will need another legitimate threat in attack.
Sutton experienced a solid 2024 with 1,081 yards and eight affected, but Marvin Mims finished second from the team to receive yards with only 503. Godwin would make the team more formidable and a little more explosive in attack while removing Nix to make things move by itself.
