Cincinnati – The Texans star Danielle Hunter has accepted an extension of a year of $ 35.6 million which makes him the second highest of the NFL Defensive END according to Tom Pissero of NFL Network.
Hunter obtains an increase of $ 12.5 million and will earn $ 32 million in 2025. This means that it is under contract for the next two seasons and will earn $ 55.1 million over this period with $ 54.1 million guaranteed.
This could establish a reference for the dead end of the Trey Hendrickson contract with Bengals. Cincinnati has given him permission to speak to other teams earlier this month.
Although the organization lets him speak to other teams, they always hope to keep it in Cincinnati and beyond.
“A source of the league even suggested that they should get to 2026 and give it an agreement of a year worth 30 million dollars – although it is not clear if it would soothe Hendrickson,” Jordan Shultz of Fox Sports wrote on Wednesday.
After this hunter contract, it is difficult to see a scenario where Hendrickson would be satisfied with a simple pay bump for 2025. This probably does not make sense for both sides.
The 30 -year -old led the NFL with 17.5 bags in 2024. Hendrickson finished second in voting by the defensive player of the year and represented almost half of the 36 bags in total in Cincinnati. Hunter had 12 bags for the Texans and, like Hendrickson, is 30 years old.
Hendrickson has aroused many interests on the commercial market, but the teams hesitate to pay the price requested from Bengals when they also have to reward the Rusher Star Pass with a new contract.
“Sources indicate several teams, including the Indianapolis colts – who have its former defensive coordinator in Lou Anarumo – are interested in negotiating for him,” wrote Schultz. “However, satisfy Hendrickson with a new contract and Bengals with commercial compensation is difficult – perhaps even impossible. Bengals recognize the importance of Hendrickson for the team and remain in constant contact with his camp, hoping to do something. The situation remains fluid, but Cincinnati would like to find a solution.”
This solution could mean a contract similar to that of Hunter. Would Bengals really give Hendrickson $ 54 million guaranteed in the next two seasons? It seems unlikely.
At the same time, if a contract of $ 55 million over two years can satisfy Hendrickson in Cincinnati, Bengals should consider it, even if it is essentially fully guaranteed.
The Hunter New Deal certainly gives Hendrickson’s camp to a different contract to report as a model of contractual talks.
How would it work? Well, Hendrickson should win $ 16 million in base salary this season. They would need to give it a significant increase this year and make it one of the best -paid defensive ends of the NFL on an extension of one year.
Like Hunter, he is probably looking for a multi -year agreement which includes a significant increase in remuneration this season.
The Bengals broke the previous one and gave both Ja’marr Chase and Tee Higgins guaranteed money after the first year in the extensions of the contract they signed earlier this week. It is reasonable to think that Hendrickson will ask for the same thing in his negotiations with Bengals.
