THE 49ers of San Francisco Were not very active in a free agency, but they managed to bring back a handful of their own free agents.
One of these free agent signatures was Ballon bearer Patrick Taylor III. The club officially announced its one year contract on Friday.
Taylor joined the 49ers last off -season as a free agent of the Green bay packers. He was on the list until Christian McCaffrey returns from his injury to Achilles. Taylor was released and re-signed to the training team. He was again promoted to the active list when McCaffrey fell in week 13 with a knee injury.
Bring back Taylor gives the 49ers four RBs to their list. He joined McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo and Israel Abanikanda. Taylor in particular is intriguing because he could end up replacing the role that Jordan Mason would have played before being exchanged Vikings du Minnesota.
Mason was the first rusher of the 49ers last season, but he probably had to assume a third RB role behind McCaffrey and Guerendo. It is a role that Mason was widely overqualified. Taylor, on the other hand, is a nice tertiary compliment to the two RBs in front of him on the depth board.
He took third setbacks with the packers, and last season acquitted well in the final of the season when he was plunged into the role of RB in mind because Guerendo underwent a knee injury. Taylor in this match posted 109 yards on the ground in 17 races.
It is not a lock that Taylor makes the list. Abanikanda will be in the running for this role. San Francisco could add another RB through the draft which landed behind Guerendo on the depth board.
Taylor has played 47 games in four seasons as a pro. It has 444 yards on the ground and two affected affected affected at 104 attempts. It also has 17 catches for 94 yards out of 31 targets.
