The choice of the draft of the Saints of New Orleans, Tyler Shough, was the third quarter-rear chosen in the draft of the NFL 2025. Shough was only the second quarter that the saints have ever selected in the first or second round in 58 years of history.
Miami’s Hurricanes quarterrier, Cam Ward, was chosen for the first time in the general classification by the Titans of Tennessee. The New York Giants then exchanged in the first round towards the quarter of the Mississippi Jaxson Dart in the 25th row.

Shuch, who is 26 years old in September, should not be automatically named the starter of New Orleans. Due to his draft status, he is the first favorite of what will probably be a competition with the second year quarterrier Spencer Rattle.
Shough is also among the (very) first favorites for the offensive recruit of the year. Immediately after the draft, Shough was installed as having the highest seventh position for the recruit of the year by Fan Duel Sportsbook.
In place since 1967, the saints have seen four players winning the honors of the recruit of the year, with three on the offensive side.

After winning the 1980 Heisman Trophy with Southern Carolina, Rogers was selected for the first time by the saints in the 1981 NFL draft. It is the only time in their franchise history that New Orleans has selected the first.

Rogers would have a historic campaign for the saints as a recruit in 1981. He led the NFL with 1,674 yards on the ground and 378 attempts on the ground, with his 13 touches on the ground finishing second in the league.
Rogers still holds the franchise record for ground yards and attempts in one season. He won the offensive recruit prize for 1981 by winning 65 (77.4%) of the potential votes of the Associated Press.
Rueben Mayes, RB (1986)

After rushing for 2,873 yards in the past two seasons in the state of Washington, the saints have selected Mayes in the third round of the 19-1986 NFL draft. Rogers had been exchanged by New Orleans two years earlier, so the door was opened for Mayes to take a main role in the rear field.

Mayes was one of the surprises of the 1986 season, rushing on 1,353 yards to lead New Orleans and finish fourth in the League while adding 8 affected. It only became the third back in the history of the Holy Franchise to rush on more than 1,000 yards and remains one of the seven backs to do it.
Mayes was the 13th ball carrier written in 1986 and second by his own team behind the choice of the second round Dalton Hilliard. He would win the recruit of the year in 1986 by taking 88.1% of the votes, no other player receiving more than one vote in his 74.

The saint coach Sean Payton fell in love with Kamara during the 2017 pre-project process and took the Tennessee product with a third round choice. After a slow start of her recruit year, Kamara caught fire and became one of the most popular players in the history of the franchise.

As a recruit, Kamara rushed to 728 yards and added 81 receptions for 826 yards while marking 12 affected. Its 1,901 versatile yards finished third in the league when it led all the production files.
The NFL 2017 draft was rich in ball carrier talents, but Kamara was the best versatile threat of the group. It was the fifth rear chosen this season and won the prize for the recruit of the offensive year by barely bordering the Kareem Hunt ball carrier. Kamara took 28 of the 50 possible votes, Hunt taking 21.
Marshon Lattimore, CB (2017)

The 11th overall choice in a 2017 starry project, the product of the Ohio State Lattimore was the first half of the corner of the table. He is tied with Alex Molden (1986) as the only corners never chosen by the saints in the first round of the draft.

Lattimore was an instant sensation. He had become almost immediately one of the best NFL stop corners and remained for several years. In 2017, he intercepted 5 assists and broke 18 others while raising defense by clutching many better large, league.
Lattimore won 45 of the 50 possible votes (90%) for the defensive recruit of the year 2017. He remains the only defensive player in New Orleans to take honor.
