Not only can Jack Conley live a dream by putting a helmet and a NFL uniform for the Minicamp recruit, but he can do it with the team for which he grew up.
Conley signed as Udfa with New England after the NFL Daft and with the Recruit camp which should start on Friday, the dream will soon become a complete reality.
“It’s amazing,” he said recently in an interview with New England Football Journal. “I grew up with the patriots and my whole family did it, so it’s really like, not to be cliché, it is a dream come true for sure, to be able to be part of the patriots. I am really excited to do it and that I am excited to compete and get started and work.
The familiarity inside the Gillette Stadium certainly helped his case when the patriots were looking for guys to fill the list. After being trained by Doug Marrone last year, Truebel also spent a lot of time with the entire O-Line group at the BC Day in British Columbia. Not only that, but Truebel of course has a fantastic relationship with Bill O’Brien, so each base has already been covered with regard to the way Conley could potentially help Pats.
“I think it really helped, be comfortable with each other throughout the process, you know, during the professional day, then to the local day when I was also there and I spent a lot of time with their staff,” said Conley. “You know, they saw me playing on cinema and stuff and in person. So I think that it has helped a lot with familiarity and I worked a lot with the brown coach, so I’m excited to continue working with them. It’s great. I think it has helped a lot.”
Conley and Vrabel have gotten to know each other a bit in the past two months.
Hopefully Conley’s performance, which begins on Friday, leads to a much longer relationship between the new HC of NEP and the great man of British Columbia.
“He and I have had great conversations in the past two weeks and (the day he has received the call),” added Conley. “I am really excited to have the opportunity to play for him. I want to say, I grew up watching him play like a patriot. I followed his career as a coach, and he did incredible things and I am good friends with Tyler (Trobel).
So, just knowing what it is already before I intervene, I am so excited. It’s the kind of guy I want to play. I love nonsense, but I also like hard love.
“I can’t wait. It’s an honor to play for him.”
