San Jose, California. – The coach of the receiver of the San Jose Valley Lycée Christian Salvador Delgado is one of the 25 finalists selected to participate in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers National Coaching Academy.
“I hope to have a job opportunity,” said Delgado. “I want to soak up and enter the opportunity and just like that, but I go there to show that I can work at this level and maximize my potential.”
The 28-year-old will be one of the team meetings, sessions of coaches on the field with the recruits of the Buccaneers, and will be one of the masterclass sessions with the head coaches of Super Bowl Jon Gruden, Tony Dungy, Bruce Arians and the head coach of Bucs Todd Bowles.
“From there, five will be selected to be coach scholarship holders where they will join our training staff in the training camp and the pre-season,” said Bowles.
The Delgado coach career began in 2020 as a volunteer in the San Jose State Spartans football program.
His hard work drew the attention of one of the coaches and soon his role increased, helping the offensive line and wide receivers.
He hopes to repeat this kind of climb at the next level.
“Put my foot in the door in the NFL door. Then, once you have reached the QC level, then go up in position, then, after that, the coordinator, then after that, let’s hope, train the opportunity to coach in the NFL,” he said.
Dig more deeply:
Not only does the native of San Jose represent the Bay region, but it also builds its Hispanic heritage in a space where Latin coaches are historically under-represented.
“As a Mexican and Salvadoral, there is not really much representation in sport,” said Delgado. “I know that it grows, but I always go out to show that this community can also show that they are able to do everything they think and work at this level or whatever the level at any position.”
