New Orleans’ saints offensive Line Player, Trevor Penning, could face his third position in four seasons of the NFL.
During the OTA session on Thursday with the saints, Penning spent the majority of the day at the left guard. It was a new position for him after spending the first three years of his career in the left or right tackle. The recruit choice of the first round Kelvin Banks Jr. took most of the representatives in the left tackle, while the first round choice in 2024 Taliese Fuaga was on the right.

Penning, 26, was the 19th overall choice in the first round of the NFL 2022 draft by the saints in northern Iowa. He seemed to be the probable start of the day of opening to the left tackle as a recruit before a foot injury in the pre-season final.
The injury continued to write for the first 11 games of the 2022 season. Once in good health in week 12, Penning only played 66 offensive snaps as an additional line player for five games. He would make his first departure in career, in the left tackle, during the final of the season against Carolina.

Penning opened the 2023 season as a starter in the left tackle. He fought powerfully, which led him to be put on the bench by the sixth game. In the past 11 weeks, Penning has not played a total of 13 snaps as an offensive reserve.

Penning’s difficulties led the saints to use their first round choice during the NFL 2024 draft on the offensive Talle of Oregon State Taliese Fuaga. Despite being a first All-American team in the right tackle for the Beavers, New Orleans moved Fuaga to the left platform. In turn, Presning moved to the right tackle after playing the left side at university and with the saints.
On the right tackle, Penning had the best performance of his short career. He started the 17 competitions, playing 99% of offensive shots. Fuaga had an exceptional year on the left side, also starting the 17 games and resembling Bowler Prorenal Pro potential.

The reception was particularly strong as a racing blocker. However, his protection against passes remained extremely erratic and he still fought with blocks in space. The new head coach Kellen Moore said he would focus on improving saints in the trenches, which they would immediately approach in the project.

New Orleans had a choice of first round on an offensive platform for the second consecutive year and the third time in four years, using the ninth choice in total on the Texas offensive set, Kelvin Banks Jr. Banks, was a triple selection of the conference, twice all-American and the winner of 2024 Outland Trophy Award with The Longhorns.
Kelvin Banks was a left tackle throughout his collegial career. This has left a lot to speculate on the potential mixture on an offensive front of the saints who has not played well in recent seasons.
To open the OTAs, New Orleans had banks to its natural left tackle point while turning Fuaga back to its right-tone college post. This has left the reception against a change of third position in four years.
The saints should experiment several combinations of offensive lines via Minicamp and the training camp. However, it should be noted that the saints have selected a right and left natural tackle in the last two projects but did not provide a final response to the left guard.

Could reception be this answer?
It would not be unprecedented. Remember that Andrus Peat, a choice of first round in 2015, could not be the answer to the left tackle or the right tackle. Once moved to the guard, Peat made three pro-bols and was one of the best NFL interior block blockers.

This does not mean that the reception will have the same result. However, an inner place would limit his exhibition in space, where he was repeatedly the victim by more athletic defenders. Penning’s physical capacities as a racing blocker would also be more useful for a childcare where the saints have had a rotating door of players in recent seasons.
