Jaire Alexander should not be nowhere on the lions radar after the packers released it

Jaire Alexander should not be nowhere on the lions radar after the packers released it Originally appeared on Sports Athlon.

One of the rivals of the Detroit lions division has just moved from a double All-Pro.

After months of speculation to find out if Jaire Alexander would be exchanged this offseason, Green Bay Packers released He in a decision that saved them $ 17.1 million in the ceiling space.

Since the packers made this decision, the Lions were mentioned by several writers as a potential landing point for Alexandre.

The problem is that Alexander’s signature did not make sense to them.

To begin with, his injury history is a bit of a red flag.

He only played seven games in each of the last two seasons. He has also missed at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons.

His most recent absence was due to a knee injury that persisted during the 2024 season and finally required surgery.

This history of injuries is not exactly ideal for a team that was hammered by injuries last season and which already has several important defensive pieces which will not be ready for the start of the 2025 season.

There is also the question exactly of how it corresponds to the Lions at the moment.

They have just given DJ Reed an agreement worth $ 16 million a year. It will be on the ground whenever possible.

This leaves a starting room outside. The Lions spent their first round choice on Terrion Arnold last year and expect it to have a greater impact in 2025.

Adding Alexander would mean one of the two things.

The Lions should either convince a double All-Pro to accept a smaller role in the crowded corner room, or they should kill Arnold’s development in his second season by reducing his opportunities.

I cannot imagine that Alexander is ready to sign at a lower cost where he could have been able to find something to stay in Green Bay. If it cannot be signed at a lower cost, it would be really difficult to choose the first option.

The second option is not attractive because Lions need Arnold to take place to ensure the future success of their defense.

If the lions will suddenly start to throw money, they now have needs in the trenches on both sides of football where they can better spend this money.

The lions should stay the corner at the corner with Arnold, Reed and the rest of the corners they currently have on the list rather than adding Alexander unnecessarily to the mixture.
