Denver’s broncos were not completely satisfied with their back room. At least, that’s what we can deduce after the broncos Veteran signed Running Back JK Dobbins Last week.
For any reason, the broncos head coach Sean Payton seemed to pump the brakes on the idea that Dobbins was signed to be a veteran voice in the very young room on the back of the team, complimating the former Los Angeles loader balance and instinct.
“We will manage all of this,” said Payton last week. “We are interested in what he can do in the field.”
The attacking coordinator Joe Lombardi raised the curtain a little more in the reflection of the broncos in Dobbins, and why it was signed for an agreement of one year of $ 2.85 million with the incentives to be won north of $ 5 million.
“It’s exciting. He’s a guy who was very successful in his career,” said Lombardi about Dobbins last Wednesday. “He is someone for whom we have always had a lot of respect. It adds talent and competition to this room. Obviously, he was a very productive runner, and he is a good password. I think that will help competition in this room and will help the team.”
Competition is always good, but its production and its successful success protection are the features that Dobbins brings to the table which may have lacked in Denver before its arrival. Listening to Payton, the broncos had at least one guy with a few pro passing, Tyler Badie, but he was fourth on the depth board before the arrival of Dobbins.
Payton played the need for the third rear to have expert passes during the offseason, but this can be a very precious merchandise. The opposing defense is not going to blitz and bringing additional rushers to each third party, and when they do it, Payton has other tips in his sleeve to account without removing the turn of the equation, in particular by keeping a tight end to block.
Now, broncos have a ball carrier on which Payton can count on the chip and blocking if necessary. But Dobbins can do much more, just like the recruit ball carrier RJ Harvey. In a perfect world, Payton wants his back involved in the passing program in a third and long situation.
Dobbins can force, but broncos intend to improve the Harvey chops for such situations. The recruit has a potential for “joker” in the passing game – the ability to be a weapon of gap. It will be interesting to see how the running backs take into account the broncos passes game in the fall.
But there is no doubt that Dobbins’ experience is a welcome blessing for this young play. It can help serve an excellent example for the first and second year of back-back to turn.
“Whenever you have a guy with this kind of experience – you have just seen it for the first time here today,” said Lombardi about Dobbins. “He was locked up, and you could say that he has very good habits. It’s always good to have this example of a veteran like that for young people.”
Although Dobbins has been in the NFL since 2020 and brings this experience to Denver, it is still relatively young itself.
“I will bring these skills, but I know that this room is also young. I want to bring them leadership. [I want to] Help them grow as NFL players because it can be difficult, “said Dobbins last week.” Especially the young recruit, RJ; He’s going to be really good. It’s my six -year work [veteran] Now – in progress over six years – I’m still 26, however. I am young. It is my job to help him grow and transmit the game to him. I hope he has a great career. »»
As for production, Dobbins has just released a 2024 season with 905 yards on the ground and nine affected. The stable entirely behind the broncos was combined for only seven scores on the ground last year.
The Broncos back room underwent a youthful treatment during the offseason, with last year’s starter – Javonte Williams – now by cashing her checks with Dallas Cowboys. Harvey and Dobbins are the new blood, with Audric Estime holders, Jaleel McLaughlin, the aforementioned Badie, and Blake Watson including the new unit.

Harvey will have to continue singing for his supper when the training camp takes place, but it is prudent to project it as well as Dobbins as a punch of the broncos at Running Back.
