The new president Ed Policy of Packers talks about the future of Green Bay leaders in Matt Lafleur, Brian Gotekunst and Russ Ball Originally appeared on Sports Athlon.

The president of the Green Bay Packers team, Ed Policy, has his own opinions during the management of the head coach and the contracts of managing director.

Head coach Matt Lafleur and Managing Director Brian Gutekunst have two more years on their current contracts. Not wanting to work for a year either – but also to decide not to extend them before the coming season – Policy said he always prefers to manage their agreements before the 2026-27 season.

This means that Lafleur and Gutekunst will be extended or licensed after the 2025-26 season. The executive vice-president and director of Russ Ball football operations is also under a multi-year contract, which policy intends to approach in the same way as the head coach and the director general.

“I think that normally, you have a fairly good idea where this relationship takes place when you have two years left – not always, but normally” said Regarding his approach.

Gutekunst has been managing director of packers for seven years and Lafleur has followed just behind him as a chief coach for six years. The two were hired by a panel that included a policy. The policy was originally vice-president and general lawyer of the team before becoming director of operations and general councilor in 2018.

Despite solid relations with the three – Lafleur, Gutekunst and Ball – Politics always has expectations for packers who will determine its decision to extend their contracts or not.

One of his higher priorities: “It’s time that we are starting to compete with the championships.”

Lafleur, although the 13th percentage of the highest victories in the history of the NFL among the head coaches, is still struggling to get out of a rut in the playoffs. Gutekunst also dealt with questionable discoveries in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

Staying on a set with regular regular season records and a consecutive scenario for the playoffs could influence the decision of the policy to extend or draw both after the season.

Although a situation of doing or Die may not be exactly how he receives the coming season, politics intends to do everything that is best for the program.

“Win football matches, number one; Keep the Packers in Green Bay, number two; and to strengthen our community, number three,” said Policy. “… each decision we make here – to do something or not to do something – will be based on promoting one or more of these objectives.”

To help this, the policy plans to continue to allow Lafleur, Gutekunst and Ball to do their job without flying over them. However, he intends to launch a more formal meeting time with leadership and help communication.

“I see the role of the president with regard to football operations such as the truly selection of the football management, guide them and give them all the resources they need – and support them, assess them, then keep them responsible,” said Policy. “Really, I think it is important to let them do their work. These are exceptional people – all three … Admittedly, no team needs two head coaches or two GMs.”

What a team needs, however, is a lot of “right”: players, development, team environment, character, culture, a winning list and a program that is progressing.
