The Lions of Detroit are aware that the veteran secondary Alex Anzalone is looking for a new contract extension.
Before the last season of a three-year contract extension, signed in 2023, the former New Orleans Saints said that the overall situation was disappointing. It is his conviction that he is underpaid according to his production, what he means for the team and according to the market value of other seconds who have gained extensions this offseason.
After the 30-year-old told journalists that his contract should be discussed with Dan Campbell, the popular head coach said that the team had no animosity towards a player on which they relied on a count to anchor the defense.
In its absence, the team now counts on Jack Campbell to direct the defense and continue its development with the new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard opening the way.
“It certainly means a lot. I am proud of that, but it will not change who I am,” said Campbell Friday after training. “I’m not going to change who I am, but it’s an honor. But, it also takes 10 other guys to produce what we want to do.
“You need all the other guys who are not on the ground, you need all the assistant coaches, you need all the coaches to make one, a large group, a single beat,” continued Campbell. “And that’s what we are working on right now.”
The former choice of the first round round in 2023 recorded five strokes of a quarter, five shortcomings, a forced escape and 131 placed in 17 games last season.
