Last off-season, the Carolina Panthers have swung an exchange with the Pittsburgh steelers to acquire the Large Diontae Johnson recipient, in the hope of providing a reliable weapon to the quarter-tree Bryce Young.
Well, the move obviously returned against him, because Johnson recorded only 30 captures for 357 yards and three affected in seven games before being treated at the Baltimore Ravens.
It didn’t take long for the Ravens to cut it, and the Houston Texans then picked it up only to do the same after their victory in the playoffs.
Johnson now arrives on the market for free agents with a zero lever effect, but there is a good chance that some teams will take a leaflet on him in a one -year contract.
Could the Panthers seriously find him? Walker Clement by Cat Scratch Reader does not exclude him, appointing Johnson among the large outs that the team could consider next month.
“The value of this additional space is in the new capacity of panthers to compete for anyone on the market”, ” Clement wrote. “Think of guys like Tee Higgins (if it strikes the market), Chris Godwin or Diontae Johnson with a broad receiver, or literally any name on this list of the best free agent defenders.”
To be fair, Clement was just throwing a name there. It was not a huge approval from Johnson, but let’s be real here: Johnson is probably not the best guy to bring if you try to make young people as comfortable as possible in 2025.
There will be many other more convincing options for Caroline to target, including intriguing weapons such as Elijah Moore, Darius Slayton and perhaps even Dyami Brown.
At this point, the Panthers should not go near Johnson, who is probably the best suited to play for a team rivaled with a presence established under the center.
