Washington commanders are in the middle of a significant off -season while they are looking to reshape their list under a new leadership.

Commanders have several areas that require strengthening, including the defensive tackle and the cornerback. With the recent outings across the league, two intriguing names hit the open defensive platform Sheldon Rankins and the Dane Jackson corner half.

According to the NFL, the two players have recently been published by their respective teams, which puts options available in free agency. Could Washington benefit from the addition of these players?

Rankins, a former first-round choice of New Orleans Saints, was released after a single season with the Bengals of Cincinnati. He started seven games before landing on the list of non-football injuries, which interrupted his season. Its release releases $ 9.6 million in ceiling space for Bengals, making it a veteran presence available on the interior defensive line.

When he is in good health, Rankins turned out to be a disturbing force, especially against the race. It also provides upwards, after having recorded at least three bags in four different seasons.

For a team of commanders who could use an additional depth behind Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne, Rankins could be a precious rotation piece by assuming his health checks. However, given his recent history of injuries and the money he could order, Washington must weigh if it is worth the investment or if a younger and more affordable option is more logical.

Jackson, who spent time with the Buffalo Bills, the Houston Texans and the Carolina Panthers last year, was released after a short stay. He played in nine games with three starts, mainly serving as a depth option in secondary school.

Commanders have a major need in the hearth, but the question is whether Jackson moves the needle enough. Although it is a piece of usable depth, it does not change the situation on the cover.

If Washington is looking for an experienced backup which can contribute in the sub-packages and offer a special value of the teams, Jackson could be worth planning.

Sheldon Rankins and Dane Jackson bring an experience and could fill deep roles in the positions of need for commanders. Although none of the players is a guaranteed upgrade, they offer skills that could interest the Washington front office when they assess the free agent options.
