Former Trojan Carrollton and the professional corner half Jonathan Jones will have a new NFL house for the first time in his career because he would have signed an agreement of $ 5 million on Thursday with Washington Commanders.
Jones, 31, had spent nine seasons with the New England Patriots after being signed by the organization as an un residued free agent of Auburn in 2016.
The Veteran Corner shared a sincere message on social media after the announcement of his change of team.
“I cannot start to express how much these last nine years have noted for me,” said Jones about his time in New England. “As a young child not drafted from Auburn, I came with everything to prove. This organization took me, believed in me and gave me the opportunity to live my dream. Together, we have won two super bowls, surmounted by challenges and created memories that will remain with me forever. »»
Jones appeared in a total of 132 games for the PAT, including 71 departures. During these matches, he recorded 11 interceptions, 57 deviations from passes and 436 plated.
Last season, he started in 14 of the 17 games and recorded 58 plated and six passenger deviations.
Jones is known for his philanthropy in almost all the communities he has been a part, notably in Carrollton, Auburn and New England.
He made several visits to Carrollton to talk to students and organize his next foundation football camp.
Thanks to his work in the regions of Auburn and Boston, Jones was selected as nominees of Patriots for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year price for the 2023-24 season-an honor that recognizes players who excel in the field and demonstrate a constant commitment to create a positive impact beyond the game.
Jones made sure to address fans of New England who supported him in these efforts and others.
“For fans: your passion, your energy and your unwavering support have meant the world for me,” continued Jones. “Through all the ups and downs, you have stood next to us and I will always be grateful for the love you showed me and my family. My children grew up as New England fans, and no matter where life takes us, we will always wear that with us. »»
“New England will still be at home,” he said. “I will always be a patriot.”
