NFL Draft: the GMEs GM Joe Schoen will not “afraid” to play Travis Hunter in attack and defense if New York chooses him

In the debate in progress of the question of whether Travis Hunter can or should play in both directions in the NFL, the Giants of New York threw their hat in the ring.

They believe he can. And they would not be “afraid” to deploy it on both sides of the ball.

It is according to the director general Joe Schoen, who tackled the status of the double -meaning star at a press conference on Wednesday, eight days before the first round of the NFL draft next week.

“We are in a unique position that we have three good receivers, and we love our secondary at the moment”, ” Schoen told journalists. “So our situation will be unique. I would not be afraid to play it on both sides of the ball.”

Schoen’s position is relevant. The giants have the choice n ° 3 in the draft next week. The Titans du Tennessee should largely select the Quart -Arrière district of Miami with the choice n ° 1. This scenario would leave the top two consensus in the draft – Hunter and Penn State Edge Rusher Abdul Carter – to fall to choices n ° 2 and 3. The giants could very well face the possibility of selecting Hunter at No. 3.

Hunter is a unique football talent that played the majority of clichés on both sides of the ball during his Heisman trophy campaign in 2024 in Colorado. It is evaluated by most as the best wide receiver and the best corner of this year’s draft with All-Pro on the rise in both positions.

Should Hunter play in both directions?

Playing two ways at university is one thing. Although it is still wild. Doing it in the NFL in 2025 is not realistic, right? The violence of the game weighs an important physical and mental assessment, whatever their position.

The double plunge of these violence opportunities resembles a formula for a shorter career with a higher risk of significant injuries and recovery. Despite this, Hunter wants to play in both directions in the NFL. And if that calls on him, there are good reasons to believe that it will call on the team that writes him.

At this point, it comes down to a question of strategic hunter deployment. There is no way that he plays full time on both positions. Instead, this would probably become a question for its main position and choose strategic places to use it on the other side of the ball.

The best comparison could be the Hunter’s College coach, Deion Sanders. Sanders is half a corner of the reputation temple which also captured 60 career passes for 784 yards and three affected playing a wide receiver. He spent most of his time in attack in 1996 with Dallas Cowboys in 1996, when he collected 36 catches for 475 yards.

This could be the plan to optimize Hunter as a two -way player.

Whoever writes it will face a difficult choice. But it will also be enviable.
