This was a shock for many when the Cleveland Browns used their last choice of the fifth round of the NFL 2025 draft to select Sheder Sanders.
During a large part of the draft, it appeared that the ancient quarter of Colorado could completely fall from the board of directors. Once projected as a selection in the first round – including as a potential adjustment for the Browns to No. 2 in total – Sanders rather slipped to the n ° 144.
In a touch, Sanders fell on Cleveland’s lap after the team has already moved its strategy and selected Dillon Gabriel de l’Oregon in the third round.
“Sheder – We are often talking about the quarter -Arrière being the most important position in sport,” said Browns Managing Director Andrew Berry, according to CBS Sports. “We had the impression that it was not necessarily the plan that was going in the weekend to select two quarters, but we believe in the best available player, we believe in the positional value, and we do not necessarily expect it to be available in the fifth round.”

Now the question becomes to know if Sanders can not only win the starting work – but even make the list of 53 men. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football TalkThis decision can be summed up by the owner of Browns, Jimmy Haslam.

“If he wants SheDer, he will probably get SheDer,” wrote Florio. “Make him the starter will validate the decision of the organization to prioritize the analysis on all the other factors to add to the list a recruit which will complicate the wider dynamics of the establishment of a football team of 53 men for 2025.”
Florio added that it is likely that the Browns start the season with a veteran – be Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett – under the center, according to how the calendar is shaking.
But Haslam could consider Sanders as the centerpiece to buy several past errors. This includes his highly criticized business for Deshaun Watson – who should not play this season after redoing his Achilles again.
“Think of the way in which the discovery by San Francisco de Brock Purdy with the last choice of the 2022 draft has obscured the horrible decision that they took a year earlier to exchange for Trey Lance,” wrote Florio. “If Sanders takes place, the Browns will have a significant counterweight to the Watsco Fiasco.
“It is the greatest consideration that is looming of all this. The same team (owner) which has stubbornly refused to admit failure as to the trade in Watson (but finally) could desperately be the success of the fashion of the editorial staff of Sheder Sanders. And that could lead to Sanders on the field much earlier than later.”
