You wouldn’t think Houston’s Texans would need more help in their secondary school because they boast of one of the best defensive football bullets.
The Texans were already loaded with the cornerback and security before off-season, but they still added CJ Gardner-Johnson via trade, and they also picked up a pair of defensive backs in the draft of the NFL. Could they try to add more?
Nick Halden of House of Houston believes that it is a possibility, connecting the Texans to the corner half of the free agent Stephon Gilmore, a former winner of the player of the year.
“Although the biggest position of need for the team is to add guards to continue the protection of Stroud, the secondary could also use an improved depth”, ” Halden wrote. “Gilmore offers depth and a defender that you can use in several ways. At this stage of his career, the price of the veteran will not be outside the Houston comfort zone and would be an easy improvement.”
Let’s be clear: the cornerback is absolutely not an urgent need for Houston. The Demeco Ryans club is well covered in the position with Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter, and the veterans Ronald Darby and Termon Smith offer precious depth options. That being said, that could never hurt for a superbl hope to add another experienced piece, and Gilmore is probably the best corner of the remaining free agent.
The 34 -year -old man spent the 2024 campaign with the Vikings du Minnesota, recording 56 plated, an interception and nine passes defended in 15 games.
Gilmore may not be the same fully caliber defender as he was in the past, but he is still a very reliable player who could absolutely help Texans.
