East Rutherford, NJ – The reconstruction of the New York Giants list took place this off -season in free agency and the draft. It was the result of the massive quantity of work that must be done to restore the legitimacy of the franchise.
The giants added a quarter-arre and a veteran winning Super Bowl with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before taking Jaxson Dart with their second first-round choice in the draft of the NFL in 2025. The replenishment of this post, “Number 1” This offseason according to the owner John Mara, was a must.
It was only part of the intersane plan. Managing Director Joe Schoen added a potential pro Bowl rusher with Abdul Carter in the draft. He signed another multipurpose rusher in Chauncey Golston as a free agent. He solidified the interior of the defensive line with three large bodies (two in free agency and one in the third round of the draft) and reshaped almost all of the secondary, creating optimism that defense can be the strength and identity of this team.
Lots of work has been done in the space of a few months. The replenishment of the list was a must for a 3-14 season which was somewhat predictable.
At that time last year, ESPN’s main writer Mike Clay had the list of giants (based on analysis and projections) classified 32nd out of 32 teams. A large contingent of fans have opposed, but history has proven it, or at least not far.
Clay has the list of giants Classified 24th this year. It may seem minimal, but it is a step in the right direction. The defense, based on its talent, is sixth. New York is clearly better positioned in terms of talent to succeed this season. Hope is that the resuscitated talent of the franchise.
It does not seem that there is a lot of doubt that the giants are better. It’s just … how much? And where?
Let’s look at the position by position if they are better, worse or the same:
Strategist: Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy Devito against Wilson, Winston, Dart, Devito
Wilson has a curriculum vitae much better than Jones and is the starter of the day 1. Winston brings more initial experience as a backup. But the biggest difference is that the giants apparently have a quarter of the future on the Dart list.
Result: Better
Running back: Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary, Eric Gray, Dante Miller against Tracy, Singletary, Gray, Miller, Skattebo cam
Tracy should be even better in its second season, and the Giants added Skattebo to the fourth round this year. Skattebo brings the physical style they were looking for in addition to Tracy and Singletary. It also brings the ability to take the ball out of the rear field and the block.
Result: Better
Large receiver: Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, Allen Robinson against Nabers, Slayton, Robinson, Hyatt, Lil ‘Jordan Humphrey
Few things have changed here at the top after having re-signed Slayton. Hope is that talent will show with a better quarter-back game. Clay has always classified them in the middle of the group road.
Result: Even
Tight endrandage: Daniel Bellinger, Theo Johnson, Chris Manhertz, Jack Stoll against Bellinger, Johnson, Manhertz, Greg Dulcich, Thomas Fidone II
The top of the depth graph is alike. Fidone was a selection of seventh round this year. He is still considered a unit of half of the League for the Giants unless Johnson flowers in his second season. The team is extremely high on its prospects.
Result: Even
Offensive line: Andrew Thomas, Jon Runyan, John Michael Schmitz Jr., Greg Van Roten, Eluemunor Jermaine against Thomas, Runyan, Schmitz, Van Roten, Eluemunor
The players were added as backups. James Hudson and Stone Forsythe do not change much. The recruit of fifth round Marcus Mmbow has potential. The hope is that this group (especially Thomas) is healthier this season. Otherwise, at least they have better backup plans. The offensive line is still a little worrying.
Result: Even
Defensive line: Dexter Lawrence II, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Jordan Phillips, Ryder Anderson, Dj Davidson, Jordon Riley, Elijah Chatman against Lawrence, Nunez-Roches, Davidson, Riley, Chatman, Darius Alexander, Roy Robertson-Harris, Jeremiah Ledbetter
Depth was a serious problem last season. The giants said that in a major way this offseason, capping it by taking Alexander in the third round. Robertson-Harris and Ledbetter should help their taboo misfortunes.
Result: Better
Outdoor Dataire: Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Azeez Ojulari, Boogie Basham, Tomon Fox against Burns, Thibodeaux, Carter, Fox, Chauncey Golston
It may be the most improved group in the group. Carter, choice n ° 3 of this year, has the potential to be a star and make it an important position of force.
Result: Better
Interior lineness: Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden, Darrian Beavers, Darius Muasau, Dyontae Johnson against Okereke, McFadden, Muasau, Johnson, Chris Board
The Giants are on a year of Okereke rebound.
Result: Even
Cornerback: Deonte Banks, Cor’dale Flott, Dru Phillips, Nick McCloud, Isaiah Simmons, David Long Jr. against Paulson Adebo, Banks, Flott, Phillips,, Tre Hawkins III
The addition of Adebo should remove some pressure on the banks, which was not ready for the role of CB n ° 1. It also adds a veteran presence to the room.
Result: Better
Security: Jason Pinnock, Tyler Nubin, Dane Belton, Jalen Mills against Jevon Holland, Nubin, Belton
Holland, which was signed as a free agent of the Miami dolphins, is an upgrade on Pinnock. Nubin should improve during the 2nd year and Belton is a quality player. It seems to be a good group.
Result: Better
Special teams: K Graham Gano, p Jamie Gillan, Kr Gunner Olszewski against K Gano, P Gillan, Kr Ihmir Smith-Marsette
Sub -olszewski for Smith-Marseatte, who are both very good return.
Result: Even
It is a total of 11 position groups. Six are better than they were at that time last year, five were the same. None are perceived as worse. Four of the five defensive position groups are improved.
This should theoretically make giants a better team in 2025, which they believe will lead to more victories. It seems quite clear that the giants have a more talented list.
“Yeah, on paper,” said Schoen after the project. “Until we get out and do it, it doesn’t matter. It’s just on paper now.”
Since we are in the “paper” part of the NFL off -season, it is better than the alternative. At this stage last year, it seemed obvious that it was going to be a long season. They finished with three victories.
At least this year, there is a more realistic optimism. Clay has the projection of giant victories at 6.6 victories.
